Roy Wagelein
Friend, Parent, Skating Coach and Lifetime SCP Member Roy Wagelein passed away a few days ago at home. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, July 9th at All Saints Lutheran Church at 5 PM. The church is located on 7th Street, north of Coral Gables south of Paradise Lane.

From his daughter, Kristia Peloke: "It has been a difficult time, but I  know we will all get through this together remembering how funny and great of  man he was.  All of you have touched my father is some way,  and it is so wonderful to know how many people that knew and  loved him."

Overnight Skate-A-Thon Fundraiser: A Great Success!
On Saturday, June 21 thru Sunday, June 22, 17 girls got together for an all night skate-a-thon to help raise money for the Skate Club of Phoenix.  During the night, the figure skaters raised over $400.00 for the Skating Club of Phoenix. Awards were given to Dana, Ariam, and Ciara for raising the most money.

The brave skaters arrived at the rink at 10 p.m. ready to stay up all night.  Once all of the skaters were there they got on the ice not fully sure what to do.  Soon the fun began - imagine what would you do if you were locked in the skating rink over night…we did it all!

All night races were held, some involved sliding on our backs down the ice the fastest.   who could do the longest dip.

Around 1 a.m., everyone got to have time in the spot light.  Exhibitions were held for anyone who wanted to show what they could do.  Then it was time to get silly again when all the skaters jammed out to “Soulja Boy”.

As the night went on, the figure skaters decided to try their luck with the hockey skates.  Who knew they would be so easy to skate with!  Ciara even demonstrated her famous “axel-on-hockey-skates” move for everyone.

With less than 2 hours to go before the event was to end, the chairs became the tool of choice for the races.  One girl pushed the other navigated.  Often the navigation ended up with bodies slamming into the walls….the hockey players would have been impressed with all the checking going on to win the race.

Thank goodness, Andrea Palos was her normal chipper self in the morning; she treated all the skaters to a wonderful breakfast of pancakes, bagels, sausage, fruit, and juice.  As all the skaters dragged themselves to the cars to go home, everyone agreed the night was definitely worth losing sleep over.
